Martin and Oclander Ready for an Exciting Year after Coaching Shakeup
After a busy offseason, Seattle University Men’s Crew is happy to announce Nichole Martin and Matt Oclander will be helming the coaching staff for the 2017-2018 season.
Serving as the Novice Team coach since 2015, Martin is well versed with rowing in the state of Washington. A varsity coxswain while a student at Washington State University, Martin now balances her time between Seattle U and Lake Union Crew, where she oversees their Master’s program.
Martin will be taking over the role from Aidan Hennessey, who stepped down from Varsity Head Coach after two years. Hennessey played an indispensable role in growing Seattle U Men’s Crew, an effort which culminated in a fourth-place finish in the Men’s Lightweight Varsity 4 at the 2017 ACRAs.
On transitioning to Varsity, Martin beamed, “I am so excited to be able to coach [these] guys as varsity. We have some speed on this team; I can’t wait to see what we can do this year.”
Replacing Martin as the Novice Head Coach is Matt Oclander, who will be staying within the Seattle U Rowing community after coaching for the Women’s Crew Team last year.
With familiar faces in new roles, the Men’s Crew team is looking forward to a strong start to the season and is eager to see where the year will take them.
